Counselling and Psychotherapy for individuals and couples.
Ken is an Occupational Therapist and an accredited Gestalt Psychotherapist who trains other health professionals in his capacity as a faculty member of the Gestalt Training Institute of Western Australia. He has worked as a clinician within the public mental health services both in regional and metropolitan areas since 1999. He continues to work in the public mental health system providing individual and group therapy in the context of a long term rehabilitation program. He uses an array of approaches which include cognitive behaviour therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy.
In his private practice, Ken provides counselling and psychotherapy to assist with a range of problems, including relationship and marital difficulties; parenting concerns; anxiety and depression; self-esteem and personal development; work and career issues; grief and loss; substance misuse and addiction; childhood trauma, and physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Ken also provide clinical supervision for mental health professionals.
Ken has a strong emphasis on a therapeutic approach based on self-support which includes identifying positive internal and external supports and learning how best to access them. He works in a person-centred manner where he values each person's experience and how it has played a part in forming who they are today.
He is a firm believer that our potential for change greatly increases when we have the support and the capacity to accept ourselves as we really are at any moment in time. This allows us to work with change, as who we actually are and with the skills we actually have, as opposed to being conflicted by how we imagine we should be.
Ken recognises that many people are motivated to grow and change, however they may not have the skills and supports needed to realise the transition. Therapy is a supported way of exploring and nurturing a person's skills to manage change.
Ken has written an article on Coping with Change that is available on this website.
