Maggie is an experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and group facilitator who works with adults. She has practised in Perth, Western Australia, for over 30 years.
Maggie offers counselling and psychotherapy for personal and relationship concerns. She has found long term inspiration in working with both women and men, witnessing their strength and richness as they engage in the process of personal discovery and change.
After acquiring a broad range of clinical experience in mental health
and psychosocial rehabilitation, Maggie commenced private practice in 1985.
She has been in private practice now for over 20 years. She utilizes a
gestalt approach with
understandings drawn from psychodynamic and other modalities in addressing
such issues as depression, shame, anger,
loss, relationship problems, boundaries,
postnatal depression, childhood abuse or deprivation, and early attachment disruptions.
For Maggie, gestalt therapy is about authenticity. It requires the therapist to be real and fully present in the therapeutic relationship and this invites authenticity within the client. At the heart of the therapeutic work undertaken together, clients discover a stronger sense of identity, personal responsibility, self-worth, and empowerment that propels them towards the fulfilment of a wide variety of personal goals. Therapy is either brief or long term depending on the needs of the individual.
Maggie teaches in the counselling programme at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Clinical supervision is offered for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychosocial occupational therapists, gestalt trainees, and other trainee practitioners.
Maggie is also affiliated with the Hoffman Institute, based in Melbourne. She is available as a group facilitator and support therapist in Western Australia for graduates of the Hoffman Quadrinity Process.
Maggie has had a longterm commitment to PACAWA, the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Association of Western Australia. She served for many years as committee member and president of that association. She is a member of the national Training Standards Committee of PACFA, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia.
