Jane has been a therapist for over 30 years, her work covering a broad range of settings. After a long career working with adults in the field of public mental health she followed her interest in adolescents and children and spent the last 8 years working with the Psychological Medicine and Adolescent teams at Princess Margaret Hospital. During that time she also furthered her training in Family Therapy, Trauma Counselling and Play Therapy and Assessment. Last year she took up Private Practice fully. In addition to her work at Cottesloe Counselling Centre, she has recently commenced a private practice in Fremantle.
She uses a brief therapy approach and also works more deeply with clients who wish to seek relief from persistent, painful emotions and behaviour. Her counselling addresses concerns of depression, anxiety, anger, self esteem, relationships, trauma, family communication breakdown and parenting issues.
She has almost completed her three-year Hakomi Psychotherapy Training, which is a gentle, mind-body therapy. It encourages the client's own capacity to heal and emphasises safety and being "met" by the counsellor. The technique of mindfulness is one of the skills used to focus and quieten the mind and helps to ground the self, offering a supportive base for the deeper work.
Her work with adolescents and children is tailored to be age specific, skill oriented and often non-directive, using art, clay, and relaxation techniques. She has extensive experience in working with complex emotional and behaviour difficulties and she works individually or with family units to help resolve conflicts.
Jane has written an article on Helping Children Manage Stress which is available on this website.
