Barbara is a registered Psychologist, an accredited
Gestalt Therapist, and has
experience in agency, community and hospice settings.
She offers counselling and psychotherapy for problems arising from any impactful life events,
including relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression, illness and bereavement.
Barbara specialises in the area of loss, grief and mourning. She considers that change and loss,
and its accompanying grief, is often misunderstood by her clients and significant others. The losses
inherent in life events such as relationship breakdown, death, deterioration in health, employment
changes, retirement, and where expectations or dreams are not realized, may generate unsettling grief
reactions. Giving voice to and expression of these feelings allows healthy mourning and healing to occur.
Barbara also works with clients wanting to solve their relationship difficulties and find value in
their differences. Enhancing communication and problem solving skills, understanding personal boundaries,
as well as intimacy and control issues can greatly enrich and strengthen relationships.
She has worked with multi-disciplinary teams in community and hospice environments and counselled
chronically and terminally ill clients and their families. She also has experience in assisting clients
to manage their depression, anxiety and panic.
Barbara provides an humanistic and awareness raising approach. Her respectful and gentle
presence assists her clients to find meaning in their difficulties and increase their capacity for
optimum vitality, personal growth and fulfilling relationships.
Barbara also facilitates bereavement groups and trains other professionals in loss and grief.
